Brooklynguide

Matthias Krause, 40, tysk journalist/fotograf ger oss den ultimata guiden till sitt Brooklyn:

COBBLE HILL

Robin de Bois
One of the many restaurants/bars on Brooklyn now famous Smith Street. Has been around longer than most and has kept its rustic charme.
195 Smith Street, Brooklyn, NY
Phone. 718-596-1609
www.sherwoodcafe.com

Luluc
Another French bistro, this time on Smith street. I like the burgers and especially the fries. But all the other stuff is good to and offers excellent coffee.
214 Smith St., Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-625-3815

Sweet Melissa
Everybody says it’s really cute and they are right. A great little café with a wonderful selection of cakes and tarts.
276 Court St., Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-855-3410

Steinhof
It’s not exactly German but Austrian never the less. It’s more Park Slope than Cobble Hill but it has a very cool selection of really good beer and hearty food. Monday is Gulasch night, a whole plate full for only six bucks!
422 Seventh Ave @ 14th Street, Brooklyn, New York
Phone: 718-369-7776

FORT GREENE

Restaurants:

Pequena – spanish restaurant
My wife Amanda swears that they have the best fish tacos in town and orders them all the time which is the reason why our son will be incredibly smart. I like the place for its tostadas though and it has very nice breakfast/brunch options too. Intimate atmosphere, you can sit inside and outside.
86 South Portland Ave, Brooklyn
Phone: 718-643-0000
Open seven days a week
Cash only

Rice
I believe it’s a branch of a place that exists in the East Village too. Good Asian food and a great setting right across the Fort Green Park.
166 DeKalb Ave., Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-858-2700
Open noon – 11 pm

Chez Oscars
Another great place on the Dekalb Ave restaurant row. Pays tribute to the French influence in this part of the town, especially good for brunch. We love the spicy lamb burger, eggs are good too. Has different musicians playing throughout the week.
211 DeKalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-852-6250

Madiba
Up for some ostrich or some spring bock? Try what claims to be the first south African restaurant in the US. They are playing odd music to and serve great cocktails, especially Mojitos. Great vibe all around.
195 DeKalb Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-855-9190

Bars:

Moe’s
One of the nicest bars in towns. The crowed is not too young and not too old, not too white and not too black. Great drinks too and very affordable. Right around the corner of Pequena.
80 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-797-9536

Frank’s
One of the weirder places I’ve ever been to in New York. The small bar and disco has been around for quiet some years and still features local DJ’s and rap artists. If you are up to a hot, dark flirt to crazy loud music, this is your place. Nobody goes home alone if he/she doesn’t want to.
660 Fulton St., Brooklyn, NY
Phone: 718-625-9339

Entertainment

BAM

The world famous BAM (Brooklyn Academy of Music) offers music (sic!), theater, ballet and movies all in one wonderful place. Features also a nice café/restaurant for pre- or after-entertainment.
30 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn, NY

WILLIAMSBURG:

Beacon’s Closet
www.beaconscloset.com
88 North 11th Street, Brooklyn, 11211
Phone: 718-486-0816

Huge warehouse space with great deals on a wide variety of new-to-you treasures. I like cleaning out my closets, selling the cast-offs to Beacon’s, and then stocking up again with my Beacon’s credit.

Iona
http://www.freewilliamsburg.com/bars/archives/2005/03/_iona.html
180 Grand Street, Brooklyn, 11211
Phone: 718-384-5008

Not a kitschy American-style Irish pub, but the real deal, and with a very nice garden in back.

Pete’s Candy Store
www.petescandystore.com
709 Lorimer Street, Brooklyn, 11211
Phone: 718-302-3770

Pete’s is a cozy bar, a little bit in the middle of nowhere, with a back room for bands, trivia quizzes, readings, and such. The crowd is relaxed and friendly, and there’s music every night.

Diner
http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7348919/brooklyn_ny/diner.html
85 Broadway, Brooklyn, 11211
Phone: 718-486-3077

Wonderful, atmospheric (kind of Twin Peaks, but just next to the Williamsburg Bridge), old train car with the best burger anywhere. Old-school, hard-boiled drinks, like Rusty Nails, too.

Yarn Tree
www.theyarntree.com
347 Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, 11211
Phone: 718-384-8030

Linda runs the friendliest yarn store in Brooklyn, along with her very mellow pit bull, Barley, who lounges in the window. She has a second room for felting, gives classes, and is open until ten o’clock, or so, for late-night knitters.

Gaaah! Sådana här inlägg får det att suga i NY tarmen. Inte för att jag någonsin besökte någon av de platser som omnämns i inlägget när jag bodde i NY. Men jag hade möjligheten att göra det! Ynk.

Skall flytta dit igen, till varje pris!
